Before you start
If any one of these is missing, Instagram won't connect. Check them before you sign up.
The account is a Professional one
In Instagram settings, open “Account type and tools” → “Switch to professional account” and pick Business or Creator. A Personal account can't be connected.
Message access is turned on
In Instagram settings, under Messages → “Connected tools”, “Allow access to messages” has to be on. With it off, GetChat can't see your DMs.
The same account is open in your browser
The connect window relies on the Instagram session in your browser. Before connecting, open instagram.com and check you're signed in to the account you want to connect. If you have several, switch to the right one.
Steps
1. Create an account
1 minPress “Sign up” and the “Welcome” screen opens. On the “Email” tab, next to “No account yet?”, click “Sign up with a code” and enter your email. Google, Telegram and Facebook work too; their buttons sit below the “or” line. To use your phone number instead, open the “Phone” tab and press “Get code”.
What you see next: A screen asking for the verification code.
2. Confirm your email
1 minA 6-digit code arrives in your inbox. Enter it and press “Verify”. The code is valid for 10 minutes. If the email doesn't show up, check your spam folder, then press “Resend code”.
What you see next: A password field.
3. Set a password
1 minType a password of at least 6 characters into “New password” and press “Create account”. If you came in through Google, Telegram or your phone, you get a “Set a password” screen instead: type the password twice and press “Continue”.
What you see next: The “Connect your Instagram” screen.
4. Connect your Instagram account
2 minPress “Connect Instagram”. An Instagram window opens: sign in and approve every permission it asks for, without unticking any box. The window then closes by itself.
Don't press “Skip” here: until Instagram is connected, GetChat won't answer a single message. If you already skipped, press “Connect Instagram” in the app's left panel, or go to “Settings” → “Channels” and press “Connect” on the Instagram row.
What you see next: “Account connected successfully” with your account name. Press “Continue”.
5. Add your business details
1 minOn the “About your business” screen, “Business name” is already filled in from Instagram; change it if you need to. Pick your type of business under “Category” (choose “Other” if it isn't listed) and press “Finish”.
What you see next: The app's home screen, on the Free plan.
Common errors
The quoted lines are the messages the app shows.
- “Instagram would not return the profile”
- The account is still Personal, or one of the permissions was unticked in the connect window. Check the account type, start connecting again and leave every box ticked.
- “Instagram would not subscribe this account to messages”
- Most often “Allow access to messages” is off. Turn it on in Instagram settings (requirement 2 above) and connect again.
- “This Instagram account is already connected to another profile”
- The account is linked to a different GetChat profile, for example an older one made with another email. Sign in to that profile and press “Disconnect” under “Settings” → “Channels”, or message us.
- “Instagram rejected the connect request”
- The connect code expired or was already used. Close the Instagram window and press “Connect Instagram” again.
- The wrong account got connected
- Another Instagram account was open in the browser while you connected. Disconnect it in the app, switch to the right account on instagram.com and connect again.
- The verification code never arrived
- The email may have landed in spam. Wait a minute or two, check that folder, then press “Resend code”. Also check the email address for typos.
